What do I need to do to use the service?
You’ll need to become a member of Belper Community Transport.
(Please see the sections below on eligibility and how to become a member.)
Who is eligible to join?
Any individual or not-for-profit organisation within the DE56 postcode area can use the service if they:
- Need assistance getting to appointments, shops, or social events
- Have mobility difficulties
- Don’t drive or are currently unable to drive
- Have limited access to public transport or a limited local service
How do I become a member?
You can apply for membership in the following ways:

Membership costs:
- Individual: £25 per year
- Group: £100 per year

What area does Belper Community Transport cover?
We support anyone living in or based within the DE56 postcode area.
When is the service available?
Our vehicles are available to book seven days a week, subject to volunteer driver availability.
Vehicles can also be self-driven (see “Can people self-drive?” below).
How do I book a journey?

Office hours: Monday to Thursday, 10am–4pm
How do I cancel if needed?
We ask for at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel, so we can inform our volunteer drivers.
Please call or email using the contact details above.
If no cancellation notice is given, we reserve the right to apply a cancellation charge.
How far in advance should I book?
Ideally, please book at least three working days in advance so we can coordinate with our volunteers.
We’re happy to take bookings further ahead, and all reservations are handled on a first come, first served basis.
How much does a journey cost?
Our vehicles are charged at £6 per hour, including travel time to and from our car park at The Coppice in Belper to your pick-up point.
For journeys over 50 miles, there’s an additional 30p per mile charge.
How do I pay?
Members are invoiced monthly (by their chosen method).
Payments should be made by BACS, using your invoice number as the payment reference.
What type of journeys can be made?
We’re here to help with a wide range of transport needs, including:
- Medical appointments and hospital visits
- Shopping trips
- Social or family events
Our Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAVs) can carry up to four passengers plus a driver in addition to one wheelchair user — perfect for family outings.
Can people self-drive?
People can hire for self-drive our electric Nissan Leaf and our Ford Tourneo WAVs.
Drivers need to be over 25 and have less than 7 points on their licence.
Training in the use of the Wheelchair Accessible vehicles is required (to meet insurance requirements) and will be supported by our volunteer drivers.
Vehicles will be fuelled/ charged to support local journeys (see note on mileage surcharge above). If you are planning a longer journey, please advise at time of booking to ensure we can charge/ fuel the cars in readiness.
If self-driving, please return the vehicles in a reasonable clean condition internally.
When hiring the electric vehicle, please leave it charging.
How is Belper Community Transport funded and HOW can I support it?
Belper Community Transport is funded by grants from a number of local organisations (see our Funders page).
Researching and applying for funding is time consuming and very challenging work. Therefore, we really welcome donation. If you would like to donate, you can do this in the following ways

How do I volunteer?
Belper Community Transport is run by volunteers; drivers are our backbone. However, we also need volunteers to support bookings as well as publicity. We also benefit from people with suitable experience to support running and administration of Belper Community Transport as a Community Interest company.
